About Largs

Largs is a holiday resort with a population of about 12000 and is situated on the Clyde Coast in Ayrshire.

Within the town there many activities:

  • There are two golf courses in the town  Largs Golf Club a private parkland club and Routenburn Golf Club a public moorland/hill course with spectacular views of the Clyde.Click here for further details another another dozen or so within an hour or so.
  • There are three bowling greens in the town with Halkshill having indoor rinks.
  • Walking is a favourite pasttime - one can either walk along the three mile long promenade or sample other hill and country walks.
  • There is a well equipped Largs Marina at the south end of the town. Diving and Fishing trips can be organised there. Other Marinas are at Troon, Ardrossan and Inverkip.
  • Or try the new activity Cumbrae Voyages ... Fantastic Marine Wildlife Adventures from Largs Pier around the Cumbrae Islands. Cumbrae Water Sports Centre provides traing and cerificataion in sailing and boarding.
  • Details of sailing on the Clyde and between the islands of Arran, Bute and Cumbrae can be had from CaledonianMacbrayne. A special attraction is the Waverley the world's last sea going padle steamer - not to be missed.
  • Various Festivals are on - sample the Viking Festival in late August or the Town and Country Western Festival in Millport.

Around Ayrshire:

Why not visit Culzean Castle just south of Ayr , explore Rabbie Burns or take a trip to the Isle of Arran to the whisky distillery there.

Around the West of Scotland:

Interesting days out can be had on the Island of Bute where one can visit Mount Stuart House. Going further a field one should visit Loch Lomond .

Glasgow:

Pay a visit to the Burrell Collection, the Kelvingrove Museum or the Science Centre. Or go shopping at the world famous Princess Square  in Buchannan Street or the St Enoch centre or the Braehead Shopping centre on the west side of the City.

Lanark:

An interesting day out can be enjoyed at New Lanark.

Edinburgh:

Lots of attractions here. For the arts try the Edinburgh Festival, theTattoo, Fringe Events or the Filmfest. Ther is a super range of museums and galleries one of the best being the Museum of Scotland. For visitors at New Year get a flavour of Hogmany.

Stirling:

A visit to the Castle is a must!
